VIYA Presents: A Guide to Contraceptive Options

When it comes to contraception, many women immediately think of the pill. However, there are many other options available, each with their own unique benefits. VIYA is here to help you navigate the world of contraception and find the best option for you.

  1. The IUD – This small device is inserted into the uterus and can last for up to 10 years. It’s one of the most effective forms of contraception and requires no daily maintenance. Plus, it doesn’t interfere with spontaneous intimacy.
  2. The Implant – A small, matchstick-sized device is inserted into your arm and can last for up to 3 years. It’s also very effective and doesn’t require daily maintenance. This method may be more suitable for women who may forget to take pills daily.
  3. The Patch – A small patch is applied to your skin once a week and can be a convenient option for those who don’t want to remember to take pills every day. The patch releases hormones that prevent pregnancy and can be a good option for women who are sensitive to the hormones in pills.
  4. The Shot – The shot is an injection given every three months that provides long-lasting contraception. It’s easy to administer and doesn’t require daily maintenance. This may be an option for women who may be unable to remember to take pills daily.
  5. The Diaphragm – This is a small dome-shaped device that is inserted into the vagina and covers the cervix, preventing sperm from reaching the uterus. It’s a non-hormonal option that can be used for up to 2 years.

It’s important to note that every woman’s body is unique, and what works for one woman may not work for another. When choosing a form of contraception, it’s important to discuss with your healthcare provider.

Did you know that there are also natural contraceptive options? Barrier methods such as condoms and cervical caps are good options for those who may not want to use hormonal methods or IUDs.

Viya Health aims to help women make informed decisions about their health. We hope this guide has provided you with more options beyond the pill.
